12 players suspended after brawl in Anaheim

12 players were sanctioned, between the Angels and the Mariners, due to the result of the pitched battle that broke out in the second inning of Sunday’s game at Angel Stadium.

Michael Hill, vice president of field operations for MLB, made the announcement.

The main suspensions are the following:

  • Angels manager Phil Nevin suspended 10 games for intentional pitching by pitcher Andrew Wantz.
  • Mariners outfielder Jesse Winker suspended seven games for actions leading to the incident and for fighting.
  • Angels pitcher Andrew Wantz suspended three games for prescribing Winker with a pitch after warnings had already been given.
  • Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon suspended five games for leaving the dugout while on the disabled list.

Meanwhile, Angels pitching coach Dom Chiti and Mariners shortstop JP Crawford have been suspended for five games.

Angels pitcher Ryan Tepera will miss three games.

Cuban righty Raisel Iglesias (Angels), outfielder Julio Rodríguez (Seattle), coaches Ray Montgomery and Bill Haselman (Angels) and interpreter Manny del Campo (Angels), have been suspended two games.

Unless an appeal is officially filed, all player suspensions will begin serving Monday night.
