Coach Chris Fagan is hailing Brisbane’s new-found maturity for coping with an “over-the-top” attack on star midfielder Lachie Neale during a 48-point AFL drubbing of Port Adelaide.

Neale was targeted relentlessly early in Brisbane’s 14.13 (97) to 6.13 (49) victory on Sunday at a rain-soaked Adelaide Oval, with Port coach Ken Hinkley saying pre-game the team wanted to “terrorise” him.

But the Power’s strongarm tactics backfired as the Lions produced a stunning spree of seven-consecutive goals in the initial 22 minutes.

“I thought it was a bit over the top, to be honest,” Fagan said of Port’s treatment of Neale.
