The 2019 Cricket World Cup promised to be a high-scoring run-fest, with England poised to break records and finally crack the ‘500’.

Leading into the tournament, English pace bowler Mark Wood boldly claimed 500 was an achievable total for England.

“I think the England team have set a standard … we believe 500 is gettable one day,” said Wood.

“It’s almost normal to get 350; 400 is easily gettable.”

However, after 47 completed matches, no nation has reached the ‘easily gettable’ target of 400 — in comparison, it was achieved three times during the 2015 tournament.
