Mel Gibson Loses Malibu Home in Devastating California Wildfires

Acclaimed actor Mel Gibson revealed the heartbreaking news that his Malibu home was destroyed in the recent California wildfires. While on the road recording a podcast with Joe Rogan in Austin, Texas, Gibson received the devastating news about his 14-to-15-year-old residence.

Despite the significant loss, Gibson has chosen to maintain a positive outlook. Speaking to Elizabeth Vargas on NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports podcast, he emphasized his gratitude that his wife, Rosalind Ross, and their son, Lars, were safely evacuated before the fire consumed their home.

“Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” Gibson said to Vargas. “You live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff. You remember George Carlin talking about your stuff? I had my stuff there, and it’s all like, I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff, because it’s all in cinders.”

The actor recalled feeling uneasy during his interview with Rogan due to concerns about his neighborhood in Malibu. After returning home, Gibson discovered his worst fears had come true. Despite the loss, he found humor in the situation, stating, “I went home and I said to myself, well, at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore.”

Tragically, Gibson’s neighbor, fellow actor Ed Harris, also lost his home in the same fire. On a more positive note, Gibson shared that his cherished chickens managed to survive the blaze.

While reflecting on the irreplaceable items lost in the fire, Gibson admitted, “I had a lot of personal things there that, you know, I can’t get back…All kinds of stuff, everything from photographs to files to, you know, just personal things that I had from over the years, and clothing, you know, pretty cool stuff, you know, but you know that can all be replaced.”

He concluded with his main focus remaining steadfast: “These are only things. And the good, the good news is that, you know, those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way, that’s all I can care about, really.”
