Discovering New Features in iOS 18.3: Enhanced Visual Intelligence
With the release of iOS 18.3, Apple has introduced exciting new enhancements to its Visual Intelligence feature, available exclusively on the iPhone 16 models. These updates include the ability to create calendar events directly from posters and flyers and the enhanced capability to identify plants, animals, and insects with greater precision.
For users of older iPhone models, it’s important to note that Visual Intelligence relies on the Camera Control button, situated on the right side of the device. If you do not have this button, these new features will not be accessible.
How to Activate Visual Intelligence
To access Visual Intelligence, press and hold the Camera Control button for a few seconds. A quick press will simply open the Camera app; thus, the press-and-hold gesture is essential. Make sure the Camera app is not already active, as Visual Intelligence will not function if the camera is already in use.
Once activated, the Visual Intelligence interface appears, offering a camera view, a capture button, and “Ask” and “Search” options. The “Ask” button allows users to interact with ChatGPT, while “Search” sends the captured image to Google Search for further analysis.
Creating Calendar Events from Posters and Flyers
One of the standout features of the new Visual Intelligence update is the ability to create calendar events directly from posters and flyers. This functionality was previously demonstrated by Apple and is now a practical addition in iOS 18.3.
When using Visual Intelligence to create an event, aim your camera at a poster or flyer containing relevant date and time information. As the data is recognized, tap the date to automatically generate and populate a calendar event.
Real-Time Identification of Plants, Animals, and Insects
Another innovative addition to Visual Intelligence is the ability to identify plants, animals, and insects in real-time. Previously, these identifications were available only through the Photos app’s editing interface. Now, you can receive instant feedback as you point your camera at your subject.
