ESB boss’s costs increase remark called ‘inappropriate’

Minister of State Jerry Buttimer has described as “inappropriate” comments made by ESB Networks Chief Executive Paddy Hayes on RTÉ Radio 1 that the costs arising from Storm Éowyn will be passed on to customers.

Mr Hayes told Today with Claire Byrne: “It’s likely that those charges which are allowed there will find their way back into the overall cost of our distribution network.”

Speaking in the Dáil, Minister Buttimer said such a comment was inappropriate and Mr Hayes should “reflect” on what he said.

The minister was speaking as statements on the storm resumed after their suspension yesterday for the evening.
