When the then Duchess of Cambridge and her sister-in-law Meghan decided to go to Wimbledon together in July 2019, it looked like they had a blossoming friendship to most royal watchers.

After all, the famous grass tennis tournament is steeped in regal history, making the setting look like the perfect place for the pair to enjoy a glorious girls’ day out.

It also helped that they shared a passion for tennis, with Kate being the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club since 2016 and Meghan having previously attended lots of tournaments to support her friend Serena Williams.
