New Galway stroke recovery hub hailed as ‘important milestone’

The opening of a new stroke recovery centre in Galway city has been hailed as an “important milestone” for stroke recovery care in the West of Ireland.

The newly-unveiled Community Stroke Hub will be operated by heart and stroke charity Croí from their existing Heart and Stroke Centre in Newcastle, which has been operational since 2012.

The facility, opened by Mayor of Galway Peter Keane, is named after the late Tuam-based business couple, Joe and Helen O’Toole, after significant fundraising efforts made by their trust.

As the first facility of its kind in the West of Ireland, the Stroke Hub will offer rehabilitation programs, therapies and carer support services for individuals recovering from stroke.
