Diego Lopes didn’t capture the featherweight title at UFC 314 on Saturday but he’s not hanging his head in shame after going five rounds with arguably the greatest 145-pound fighter of all time in Alexander Volkanovski.
Less than two years after making his octagon debut, Lopes stormed into his first main event and gave Volkanovski everything he could handle across five rounds. Lopes scored plenty of big shots but ultimately he came up short on the scorecards with the judges giving Volkanovski the fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47 after it was all over.
