MANILA, Philippines — China criticized the United States for allegedly inciting tensions in the South China Sea (SCS) after US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson condemned the actions of the China Coast Guard against the Philippine ships that were on a routine environmental mission in the disputed seas early this week.
In a post on social media, Carlson said these actions “recklessly jeopardized lives and threatened regional stability.”
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning addressed the situation during a press briefing, asserting that the U.S. should cease its provocations.
