Once-famous east Donegal shop to be converted for homes

A once-famous east Donegal shop that had been operating for almost 70 years is to be converted for housing.

William Doherty and Sons had been a prominent feature on Convoy’s Main Street since 1959.

However, it left the ownership of the Doherty family last year.

Now, Shauni Holian is seeking permission from Donegal County Council for a change of use of the premises to be converted to two semi-detached houses.

William Doherty bought the then corrugated iron shop (below) and the adjoining home in 1959 from Raphoe man, David McCrabbe.

It was later to become the base for his wholesale business and also saw the addition of a printing shop and book shop.
