Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) chief HD Deve Gowda on Wednesday hit back at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over a light-hearted remark in Parliament, saying he was in a “forced marriage” with the Congress and had to “divorce” it due to an “abusive relationship”.
The exchange was triggered by a witty comment from Kharge during Rajya Sabha proceedings a day ago that briefly lifted the mood in the House. Taking a swipe at Gowda over his recent praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge said the JD(S) patriarch appeared to seek a “partnership” with the Opposition but a “marriage” with the BJP.
