The quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, Trey Lance, had to undergo a second operation on his injured right ankle. It is currently believed that he will recover by the start of the offseason program (OTAs).

The 49ers announced Saturday that Lance required the additional surgery to remove the screws and plates that were placed in the ankle during the first surgery in September.

These were near a tendon, causing irritation. After consultation with the doctors, the decision was made to remove the inserted parts.

Die san francisco 49ers shared that Lance will continue his rehab and is expected to be in time for the start of the ‘organized team activities” will be fully recovered by spring.

Lance broke his ankle in the Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks, ending his second season in the NFL early.

Lance had taken the job of starting pick this season after being drafted third in 2021. San Francisco traded three first-round picks to move up nine spots and bring in Lance, which was a big investment.

In two seasons in the NFL, he has only played four games as a starter.

The Niners (11-4) have performed well even after losing Lance, winning the NFC West with Garoppolo and rookie Brock Purdy. Garoppolo broke at week 13 the foot and Purdy won all three starts in his place.
