6.4 earthquake hits northern California coast

North of San Francisco

The quake was felt at 6.4 on the Richter scale at 5:34 a.m. EST. The epicenter was directly on the Pacific coast, about ten kilometers southwest of Ferndale, a city located about 350 km north of San Francisco. A few tremors followed, including one of magnitude 4.6. There is talk of minor damage in the city, a dozen injuries, and two deaths. These are the first earthquake-related deaths in California since 2019. Nearly 10,000 homes were without power for part of the day on Tuesday.
