American Eagle flight 3609 from Tampa International Airport to Nashville encountered severe turbulence and was diverted to Birmingham, according to a statement from American Airlines.
“The Embraer E175 (Embraer E175) landed safely at 3:17 p.m. Central Time and arrived at the gate safely,” the statement said.

Two flight attendants and six passengers on board suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, American Airlines confirmed.
The flight took off from Tampa but encountered turbulence over northern Florida before diverting to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in Alabama, WBRC-TV reported.
There were 52 passengers, two pilots and two flight attendants on the flight.
Fox News has reached out to airlines, authorities and airports. The plane remained parked in Birmingham as of Wednesday afternoon.
