Ina Müller, a prominent figure in northern German entertainment, known for her music and the award-winning late-night show Inas Nacht, recently shared a surprising revelation: she doesn’t share the widespread nostalgia for television legend Thomas Gottschalk.

Saturday Nights Outweighed “Wetten, dass..?”

During a conversation on the SWR3 podcast with Thees, Müller explained that her lack of connection to Gottschalk stems from her active social life during his peak popularity. When the topic shifted to the iconic wetten, dass..? show, Müller confessed that she was not among its regular viewers.

When Thomas Gottschalk was on, I think in the 90s, I was out and about on Saturdays. I was partying, in clubs.

Müller elaborated that her Saturday nights were filled with clubbing and socializing, leaving little room for television viewing. This contrasts sharply with the experience of many Germans, for whom Wetten, dass..? was a Saturday night staple. For example, during its most popular years in the 1980s and 90s, the show regularly drew audiences of over 10 million viewers, representing a notable portion of the German population.

Elstner Over Gottschalk: A Matter of Timing

Müller admitted that she barely remembers Gottschalk’s predecessor, frank elstner, suggesting that her television consumption was limited even before Gottschalk’s era. This lack of exposure explains why she doesn’t have the same emotional connection to Gottschalk that many others do.
