Medvedev and Tien to Team Up at BNP Paribas Open, Sinner Among Doubles Hopefuls
Indian Wells, CA – The 2026 BNP Paribas Open is set to feature a star-studded doubles field, highlighted by the unexpected pairing of Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien. The duo, who produced a compelling rivalry in 2025, will team up at the ATP Masters 1000 event, alongside several other top singles players.
Medvedev and Tien: From Rivals to Partners
Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien will put their competitive history aside to compete as a doubles team. Their head-to-head record currently favors Tien, 3-1 according to BNP Paribas Open. Tien shared that the partnership came together quickly, initiated by a last-minute text from Medvedev’s coach to his own. “I said, ‘Sure’, I thought it would be fun and so I’m looking forward to it,” Tien said.
Top Singles Stars Enter Doubles Draw
Beyond Medvedev and Tien, several other prominent singles players have entered the doubles competition. Alex de Minaur will partner with veteran John Peers, while Felix Auger-Aliassime will team up with American Sebastian Korda. Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev will also compete as a team.
Sinner and Opelka Seeking Wild Card
World No. 2 Jannik Sinner and Reilly Opelka have entered the doubles field but currently require a wild card to gain entry into the draw. Their combined ranking of 71 is not high enough for direct acceptance. Sinner previously won an ATP Tour doubles title with Opelka in Atlanta in 2021. Alexander Zverev and Marcelo Melo are also alternates. Ben Shelton and Emilio Nava will also need a wild card to compete.
Established Doubles Pairings to Watch
Several regular doubles pairings are also set to compete, including Australian Open champions Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski, Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, and defending champions Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.
The BNP Paribas Open will take place from March 1-15, 2026, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
