Surgent Studios Announces ‘FixForce,’ a Chaotic Cooperative Extraction Platformer
Surgent Studios, the development team behind Tales of Kenzara: ZAU, has unveiled its next project: FixForce, a cooperative extraction platformer for up to six players. The game marks a significant departure in genre and tone from the studio’s previous narrative-driven titles.
A Shift in Focus: From Narrative to Chaos
According to a press release, FixForce tasks players with taking on the role of robots tasked with repairing broken machinery in a post-apocalyptic world. The gameplay centers around collecting random parts scattered throughout levels, often obstructed by obstacles like water, tall structures, and hostile robots. Players must utilize their robots’ building abilities to create pathways and overcome these challenges within a time limit. IGN first reported the news on February 26, 2026.
Gameplay Features
- Cooperative Gameplay: FixForce supports up to six players, emphasizing teamwork and coordination.
- Extraction Loop: Players enter a level, repair machines, and extract before time runs out.
- Building Mechanics: Players use a “drill-wrench” to build structures and navigate the environment.
- Unique Hazard: Losing your robot’s head is a common occurrence, requiring teammates to retrieve and reattach it.
- Battery Management: Players must manage their robot’s battery life during repairs.
Early Access and Release Details
FixForce will launch in Early Access on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 12, 2026. Gematsu reports that a full release is planned for Xbox Series and PC later in 2026.
Developer Commentary
Surgent Studios founder Abubakar Salim explained the shift in direction, stating, “We saw the pure chaos and hilarity FixForce unleashed as it came together, so we made the decision to move quickly and publish it ourselves.” He added, “Yes, FixForce is completely unlike anything we’ve ever done before, but…we made one game about grief and another about abuse and thought, ‘can we have a little bit of silly, stupid fun for a second?’ I promise we’ll go back to dark and depressing after this!” ValoSettings also covered the announcement.
