A possible ‘life-threatening’ mistake caused Texas popcorn to be recalled in Florida and seven other states

Packaging so inadequate it created a quadruple food allergy hazard led to the recall of all flavors of Avery’s Savory Popcorn shipped to eight states.

What Avery’s calls “Gourmet Popcorn” came in bags of various sizes. What the bags had in common is that their labeling said nothing about soy, milk, peanut, tree nut (almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews) allergens in the popcorn.

“Individuals who are allergic or have a severe sensitivity to a specific type of allergen … are at risk of a severe or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the recall notice written by Avery and released by the FDA states. .

The Dallas company distributed the popcorn in Florida, Texas, Connecticut, Kentucky, Georgia, Maryland, Ohio, Oklahoma and Rhode Island from Avery’s online store between November 20 and December 20, 2022.
