Alabama and Ohio State will play the National Championship Game!

Respectively falling Notre Dame and Clemson last night, the programs of Alabama and Ohio State qualified for the national final in NCAA Football. A promising National Championship Game which will be played in about ten days in Miami.

The Crimson Tide Master of the Rose Bowl

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs #4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish : 31-14

After crushing the competition throughout the season, Alabama assumed their favorite status and largely dominated Notre Dame during a Rose Bowl almost one way. Undefeated when coming to theAT&T Stadium Arlington – an exceptional home because of the bans in force in California – the Crimson Tide will start the meeting perfectly. After a first unsuccessful series for the Fighting Irish, Alabama gets the ball rolling. Thanks to a Devonta Smith (7 rec, 130 yds, 3 TD) already very comfortable, the best team in the country unlocks its counter on its first offensive possession (7-0). Notre Dame stalls again and Alabama takes the opportunity to take a break. Thanks to an excellent job from Najee Harris (15 races, 125 yds) on the ground, including a splendid ride of 53 yds, the players of Nick Saban return to Redzone and Mac Jones (25/30, 297 yds, 4 TD) concludes the deal on a pass to Jahleel Bilingsley. 14-0 in ten minutes, a gap is already made.

Notre Dame is already in great difficulty and must react in this meeting. Starting at a too high tempo, Brian Kelly’s men rely on their ground game and it works. Helped by a precious Kyren Williams (16 races, 64 yds, 1 TD), Ian Book (27/39, 229 yds, 1 INT + 1 TD on the ground) advances his attack to one yard of the in- goal. Out of 4e& 1, the Fighting Irish try the shot and the freshman Williams finishes the job on a run full center (14-7). Notre Dame is back in the game, but not for very long. Indeed, on the next drive, Mac Jones only needed two minutes to find Devonta Smith who made a superb race after receiving to slip into the in-goal. 21-7 at the break, the suspense is already flowing.

If the score suggests that a return from Notre Dame is still possible, Alabama will quickly end any hope of the return of the country’s fourth team. After missing a field goal just before the break, the attack Fighting Irish will experience another halt. On an underdosed pass, Ian Book was intercepted by linebacker Christian Harris. Moments later, Mac Jones sends a bomb to John Metchie III then Devonta Smith signs a hat-trick to knock out his opponent Notre Dame’s efforts and Ian Book’s touchdown at the end of the game won’t change anything, Alabama was just too strong.

For the first time in 1946 and the fifth in its history, the Crimson Tide imposes itself in the Rose Bowl. A victory that opens the doors of National Championship Game for the fifth time in seven years and which allows Alabama to take a nice revenge after his absence from the playoffs last year. On the side of Notre Dame is a second elimination in the semi-finals of the playoffs in three years and a new failure for this historic program.

Ohio State surprend Clemson et Trevor Lawrence

#2 Clemson Tigers vs #3 Ohio State Buckeyes : 28-49

After a shortened season and a qualifying for the playoffs discussed, in particular by the coach of Clemson Dabo Swinney who had placed them in eleventh position of his Poll, the Ohio State Buckeyes were expected at the turn against one of the best programs in the country. And the least we can say is that Ohio State University has delivered a real demonstration. Dominating on both sides of the pitch, Ryan Day’s players smothered Trevor Lawrence (33/48, 400 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT) while Justin Fields (22/28, 385 yds, 6 TD, 1 INT) delivered one of his most successful matches of the season. A real statement win before challenging Alabama in the final on January 11 in Miami. However, these are the Tigers which fit best in this meeting. Taking advantage in particular of a stratospheric reception from Cornell Pewell (8 rec, 139 yds, 2 TD), Trevor Lawrence concludes the first ground drive before Travis Etienne (10 races, 32 yds, 1 TD + 4 rec, 64 yds) does double the bet a few minutes later. With two touchdowns in three attacks, Clemson is in his game.

However, even if the University of South Carolina does more than resist, Ohio State is already irresistible. After a punt on their first offensive possession, the Buckeyes will literally roll on their opponent. After a touchdown from Trey Sermon (31 races, 193 yds, 1 TD) to unlock his counter, OSU took advantage of a reception from tight-end Luke Farell to equalize before the end of the first quarter (14-14). From there, Ohio State will drive a decisive gap. Jeremy Ruckert, Chris Olave and again the tight-end Jeremy Ruckert will in turn enter the endzone to knock out Clemson. Ohio State has just completed five touchdowns and five possessions and remains on a 28-0 thanks to a superb use of its tight ends. The Tigers are completely stunned and confused, like linebacker James Sklalski excludes after a targeting on Justin Fields. +21 at the break (35-14), Ohio State heads straight for the national final.

Coming back from the locker room, Clemson adjusted and after an interception by linebacker Mike Jones Jr, Trevor Lawrence found Cornell Pewell to close the gap. The start of a comeback. Not really. Indeed, receiver Chris Olave (6 rec, 132 yds, 2 TD) manages a reception of 56 yds and goes into the in-goal. Another exchange of touchdowns and a late interception on Trevor Lawrence, his last NCAA game, in the last quarter won’t change anything, Ohio State was stronger in this Sugar Bowl.

With this victory, Ohio State qualifies for its first National Championship Game since the creation of the playoffs in 2014, when the Buckeyes won the title after having notably dominated Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. For Clemson the perfect season ends there and the Tigers Once again, the opportunity to win the national title is missing, a pleasure that Trevor Lawrence will no longer know, who was living here his last game in the university ranks.

After their victories in the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl, Alabama and Ohio State will therefore compete for the title on January 11. A National Championship Game which will be played in Miami in the lair of the last Super Bowl.
