ALABAMA SONG – LA MANUFACTURE / AVIGNON, The contemporary collective Manufacture, Avignon, July 7 2022

Terrible child of the Roaring Twenties, “first American boy”, artist forgotten behind the stature of a writer husband who became a star, crushed by a patriarchal society, interned for schizophrenia then burned alive in a psychiatric hospital… discover the incredible story of Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s wife: Zelda.
Here, in an impressive scenography where the spaces waver, the breathless jazz music at a frantic pace gives no respite to the story. Alabama Song, Prix Goncourt de Gilles Leroy, paints with rare sensitivity the destiny of the woman who had to fight to win freedom and recognition.
After sold-out Parisian performances, here is Guillaume Barbot’s new creation (Club 27, On a fort mal dormi, Anguille sous roche…) for the first time in Avignon.

With Lola Naymark, Pierre-Marie Braye-Weppe, Louis Caratini, Thibault Perriard
