A winter storm warning is in effect for the central and southern Minnesota Monday night through Tuesday with some shock weather expected to parts of the state.

On the other hand, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), higher ice accumulations are expected in the northwestern Iowa and parts of northeastern Nebraska and southwestern Minnesota. “Some ice accumulations greater than 0.25″ are expected which could lead to power outages and tree damage, as well as hazardous travel,” added the NWS.

The snow fall will spread more on Monday night, with temperatures near freezing, rain and freezing rain can mix, affecting potential snow totals. The band of heavy snowfall is expected to extend from Monday through Tuesday.

The NWS also announced that a “multi-hazard storm” will bring a swath of heavy snow, sleet and ice to the northern/central Plains and Upper Midwest. “Severe storms with tornadoes, some strong and damaging winds likely in the Arklatex region and in the Mid-South,” he pointed.
