Allowance for children with celiac disease in the South Urals

South Ural families with children with celiac disease will receive benefits. Governor Aleksey Teksler came up with such an initiative.

A resident of Kusa addressed the governor during a direct line at the end of last year with a request to help families in the South Urals, in which children with celiac disease grow up. Alexey Teksler promised to resolve the issue and kept his word.

On behalf of the Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler, the regional Ministry of Social Affairs developed a regulation. Document directed for consideration by the regional parliament.

“We have made a decision: starting from this year, we began to pay allowances for special nutrition for children who suffer from phenylketonuria. A similar decision was made for celiac disease. But the question is more complex, it is connected with the fact that it is necessary to provide a special diet for such children in our schools. Relevant instructions have been given,” the governor said.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease in which food containing gluten is strictly prohibited. It damages the lining of the small intestine. People with this disease are forced to follow a strict diet.

“240 children with celiac disease live in the Chelyabinsk region. They need to follow a gluten-free diet. Families raising children with such a diagnosis will receive 5,000 rubles a month for the purchase of gluten-free food,” commented the Minister of Social Relations Irina Butorina.

This year, more than 14.5 million rubles will be allocated from the regional budget to help families with children with celiac disease. In 2023, the payment is planned to be indexed.
