The pandemic highlighted the need for local businesses to adapt to new technologies. This is how MercApp was born: an application that allows you to offer business products through what is the most used messaging channel, WhatsApp. From now on, San Lorenzo Se Mueve and MercApp join forces so that San Lorenzo de El Escorial also has this possibility of commercial expansion. In the Web page www.sanlorenzosemueve.com There is already a map where businesses that have joined this first phase of the project can be consulted.
“Digital sales is the present and nothing better than WhatsApp, which we use on a daily basis to boost our businesses,” said the president of San Lorenzo Se Mueve, David Ferrer, adding that “more stores will be added in the coming days to this virtual map through agreements with associations and companies”. The success model of this application is tangible and is already implemented in 19 countries. In addition, in the region, the municipalities of Guadarrama, Alpedrete and Collado Villalba already have it. “It is simple and, in addition, tutored for users”, comments Francisco Larios, responsible for it.
How to join?
The free app is open to all businesses that want to sell up to a maximum of 10 products. “It has been completely free until recently,” Larios details, something that has served to support companies “when they needed it most, which has been during and in the months after the pandemic.” MercApp offers an expanded paid version for businesses that request it. With a ‘Hello’ via WhatsApp to the MercApp phone, users can register their store on the map of the San Lorenzo Se Mueve platform just by clicking SLSM when the code is required.
Other requests of the application for the creation are simple data such as the business logo, the products that you want to upload to the platform or its address. “It’s so simple that we have very old store owners who only know how to use WhatsApp and can sell,” reflects Francisco Larios. Among the more than 30,000 products that are already on MercApp there are, among others, greengrocers, fishmongers, butchers, gift shops… a horizon that is not closed to any business.
The businesses that have joined this first phase of the San Lorenzo Se Mueve and MercApp project can now be visited at the link https://mercapp.shop/shop/group/inicio?key=sanlorenzosemueve. Those registered also have the possibility of downloading a QR code that can be added to their tickets, business cards or prints so that customers can buy almost whenever they want. At the moment, the available businesses are Reserva del 64, Savor History -based in the neighboring municipality of El Escorial-, Alaska Details, Chocolate Label, El Muérdago and the store created by the San Lorenzo Se Mueve association itself for the sale of merchandising. María José, owner of Alaska Details and ‘pilot’ user of this sales platform has indicated that “without a doubt it is a different, innovative experience that allows me to have something that I really like both in this business and in others I have, which is a personalized and direct treatment with clients”.
