Arizona surpasses a record of hospitalizations and cases of Covid-19, in one day 11,664 new infections are confirmed, the previous day it was 9,741.
The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS, for its acronym in English) reported that this January 8, 596,251 cases were accumulated in the neighboring state of Sonora.
Regarding deaths, 197 were registered this Friday, for which a total of 9,938 have been recorded since the beginning of the contingency.
Given these figures, Arizona has positioned itself as the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic in the United States and that border access with Mexico is still open through the Sonoran territory.
The ADHS, in its latest report, stated that the total percentage of tests is 13%, while the rate of positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants is 8,293.9.
Regarding hospitalization, he indicated that there are 42 thousand 718 cases, especially in Maricopa County where the city of Phoenix is located with 26 thousand 205 hospitalized, followed by Pima County, whose main city is Tucson with 5 thousand 80.
Most of the people who are hospitalized in Arizona are 65 or older, followed by the age group of 20 to 44 and later those of 55 to 64 years.
In its indicators, the ADHS also noted that 53% of Coronavirus patients in the hospital are men and the majority of cases in general are white / non-Hispanic (44%), but Latinos follow with 33% of the hospitalized.
For his part, the governor of Arizona, Doug Ducey, mentioned that the economic activity in the entity will continue and that it will advance to Phase 1B of vaccination, which includes Education workers and adults over 75 years of age, in addition of other essential activities.
He added that more than 125,000 Arizonans have received the Covid-19 vaccine in the first Phase of the health program.
