At least six dead in Alabama tornado

At least six people have been killed by a tornado in the US state of Alabama. At least 12 injured people have been taken to hospital. It is not known how they are doing. In Georgia, a motorist died when a tree fell on the victim’s car.

People are still being searched for who may have ended up under fallen trees. “Some houses that have been completely destroyed have not yet been searched,” said a local official. “We are still searching the rubble.”

The deaths in Alabama occurred in Old Kingston, a community in Autauga County.

Tornado deaths in the US

Several dozen caravans and houses were damaged by the storm. A curfew is in effect in the nearby town of Selma.

Across the country, there were reports of 33 tornadoes on Thursday night with the National Weather Service. The south has been particularly hard hit. Tornado warnings are still in effect in the states of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Tens of thousands of people in the states of Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama are without power.
