Australia to phase out Facebook ads

The Australian authorities will refuse to use Facebook for advertising campaigns and social projects due to the restrictions imposed by the company for Australian users.

This was stated by the Minister of Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham, Ukrinform reports with reference to ABC.

“We will abandon Facebook advertising campaigns as they unreasonably block sites in an effort to show their power or influence our democracy. We will not tolerate this and will continue to follow our legislation, ”the minister stressed.

As Ukrinform reported, the Facebook social network has blocked the ability to view and distribute news content for Australian residents.

This is because the Australian government is considering passing legislation that would oblige Facebook to pay media outlets to use their news. The company said that if the law is passed, individuals and the media in Australia will not be able to publish and read local and international news.
