– WWE Hall of Famers Beth Phoenix and Edge have reportedly been involved in several creative plans leading up to WrestleMania 39. According to Fightful Select, Edge was scheduled to face Finn Bálor in a Hell-in-a-Cell fight at the upcoming Royal Rumble Premium Live Event in late November. After that, WWE had a “tentative plan” for Edge and his wife, The Glamazon, to wrestle Balor and Rhea Ripley in a mixed tag team match at the Elimination Chamber in Montreal, Canada in February.
However, Fightful added that “several of the plans on record have been brought forward, scrapped or changed,” as evidenced by Judgment Day’s evolving feuds with The Street Profits and The Usos on the WWE Raw brand could. While the report doesn’t specify whether WWE has any other plan for when Edge and Phoenix return to television, it would make story-wise if the couple were to seek revenge on Bálor & Co. on their comeback.
Both Phoenix and Edge have not appeared on WWE programming since October’s Extreme Rules, where Edge was forced to utter the words “I Quit” for the first time in his illustrious career when Ripley threatened to hit his wife with a con- hurting Chair To. After the dramatic “I Quit” match, neither Edge nor Phoenix showed up for a backstage interview.
With the Royal Rumble less than three weeks away, fans can expect Edge to return shortly to set up his rumored match against Bálor for the January 28th Premium Live Event. There have also been rumors that Ripley and Phoenix may have a singles match at WrestleMania 39.
– The New Day made history when they secured the NXT Tag Team Championship for the first time on “NXT Deadl1ne” against Pretty Deadly. The victory means they now hold the Raw, SmackDown and NXT Tag Team Championships, with Kofi Kingston having the most tag team titles of any wrestler in WWE history.
The New Day and Pretty Deadly have continued their rivalry ever since, with Pretty Deadly even making their main roster debut at last weekend’s WWE Live events. However, in the live events, Kofi Kingston only competed against Kit Wilson instead of competing with Xavier Woods against both members of Pretty Deadly in tag team matches.
According to PWInsider, this is because Woods is currently “sick” and “not 100% fit yet,” which is why the two haven’t been in the ring much lately. The company believes Woods should be fit by the time of the Royal Rumble, if not sooner than then.
Woods was in Kingston’s corner during his match against Wilson on Sunday’s WWE Live Houseshow and also during his match against Santos Escobar on SmackDown last week.
Pretty Deadly will attempt to compete against three other tag teams on the NXT: New Year’s Evil TV special for a shot at New Day’s NXT Tag Team Championship on the upcoming NXT New Year’s Evil show.
– According to a report from PWInsider, Bo Dallas (Bray Wyatt’s younger brother) was at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday’s Raw. Fiugre Four’s Bryan Alvarez reported back in October that the 32-year-old would be returning to the company. It’s been rumored that Dallas is the one portraying Uncle Howdy, but that’s unconfirmed.
