An American Airlines employee lost his life on New Year’s Eve in the United States. According to Reuters, the employee, a baggage handler, was killed in an accident involving one of the engines of an American Airlines plane which was spinning while at the gate.

“Today at approximately 3 p.m. an American Airlines piedmont ground crew employee was involved in a serious accident, no additional information is available at this time,” Montgomery Regional Airport tweeted.

All inbound and outbound flights were grounded for more than four hours on Saturday afternoon, but the airport said it resumed normal operations from 8.30pm.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
