Today, Metropolitan of Lipetsk and Zadonsk Arseny addressed the believers with a Christmas message:

“Beloved in the Lord archpastors, honorable fathers and deacons, God-loving monks and nuns, dear brothers and sisters!
I sincerely congratulate you on the bright holiday of the Nativity of God and Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ!

We again remember and come into contact with the incomprehensible greatness of the mystery of the incarnation of Divine Love. The star that shone over Bethlehem and the angels, who sang a wondrous Christmas song: “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth, goodwill in men,” pointed the human race to That Infinite and Almighty Creator of the world, Who becomes a man. “Velia of piety is a mystery: God appears in the flesh!” (1 Tim 3:16) – exclaims the holy Apostle Paul, glorifying the miracle of the Incarnation.

The Holy Scriptures tell us that this secret was revealed to people humble, simple-hearted and kind, who in the deep night saw the opened heavens and heard the mighty choir of heavenly Angels.

Coming down from heaven, the Son of God brought people peace and love, by which God is glorified. The aspiration of the Old Testament was fulfilled and the foundation of the New Testament was laid. The Conciliator came (Gen. 49:10).

The Holy Fathers and theologians have been pondering this event for many centuries, and each, due to his enlightenment and spirituality, describes this moment of the Incarnation in his own way, but their judgment is the same. Thus the Monk Simeon the New Theologian writes:
“The world is the Son of God Himself, who came to earth and became human, through Him came grace – the abiding of God in people, for God the Father deigned through His Son to be reconciled with a man who had become His enemy through sin, and to fulfill him again, deprived of the crime of grace , divine life. “

By the Incarnation, each of us is granted the opportunity to become a partaker of the Divine life. We, Christians, need to convey this joyful testimony to all those around us; we cannot remain silent about the triumph of the coming into the world of the One Who wants to “renew all men”.

Let us hasten, like the shepherds of Bethlehem, to bow our knees before Christ, completely surrendering ourselves to the providence of God, and with the Eastern wise men, let us rush without delay to the light of the star that shone in Palestine, and bring pleasant gifts to the Born: instead of gold – the radiance of virtue, instead of the gospel Lebanese – the fragrance of prayer and love, instead of myrrh – tears of repentance.

Earthly life is fleeting – erasing time, it imperceptibly flows into eternity … Therefore, let us be vigilant. The Apostle says: “Test yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; examine yourself. Or do you not know yourself, that Jesus Christ is in you? ” (2 Corinthians 13: 5).

Fathers, brothers and sisters, we are now going through a difficult time: church schisms continue to rock the ship of Orthodoxy, the innocent blood of Christians is shed again, people are suffering. In the world, as in the states of the Old Russian land, a harmful fad continues to spread. It did not pass our metropolitanate either, taking with it part of the lives of clergy, monastics and laity. Eternal and grateful memory to them. But, in spite of everything, you and I remain faithful children of the Church of Christ, although we are seized with anxiety for the future. We are close to the words of the First Hierarch of our Holy Church, His Holiness Patriarch KIRILL, said in the days before Christmas: “It is especially important to strengthen congregational and private prayer, to bring to the Lord a special labor of good deeds. Many of our brothers and sisters are now deprived of the opportunity to attend temples. Let us raise our petitions to the Merciful Creator for them, so that He would renew their mental and physical strength, grant the sick people a speedy healing and send His help to doctors and all medical workers who are selflessly fighting for their health and lives. “

In order for the lamp of our faith to shine brightly for everyone, let us, in today’s sorrows and trials, confess peacefully the spirit of repentance and bring our grateful love as a gift to God, as the Monk Elder Seraphim of Sarov said: “Acquire a peaceful spirit, and thousands around you will be saved.”

Peace and blessings of God be with everyone during the days and years of your life. “
