The US president, Joe Biden, stressed this Wednesday that the federal Executive is mobilized to help the state of Florida to face the passage of Hurricane Ian and warned its inhabitants not to take the warnings lightly.
“The storm is incredibly dangerous. They must obey the alerts and instructions of those responsible for emergencies. Take nothing for granted. Follow his opinion, not yours. Evacuate as soon as you’re told. Be ready. The threat is realsaid the president at the opening of a conference on hunger and nutrition.
Hurricane Ian, reinforced with winds of 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers / hour), corresponding to category 4 (of 5), se approaches this Wednesday to the west coast of Florida at a speed of 9 miles (15 kilometers), which will reduce before making landfall.
“I have made it clear to the governor and mayors that the federal government is prepared to help in any way possible,” added the Democratic president.
The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has already provided, according to Biden, million liters of water and menus, plus hundreds of generators to Florida.
The president asked the oil sector not to use the situation as an excuse to raise gasoline or gas prices, even though its production may have been affected in the short term due to the cyclone.
“Don’t try to use this storm to increase prices. (…) The industry should do the right thing,” he stressed in his speech.
