The Argentine, who said goodbye to football played a year ago, throws himself into the business world and buys the club that is part of the English Serie B.
Birmingham, former striker Maxi Lopez is among the new owners of the club
The transfer of ownership of the Championship club to the former Argentine striker – among others from Catania, Samp and Milan – and Paul Richardson, businessman who owns the clothing brand Hera Clothing and was former director of Gymshark, took place with overtaking in extremis on Laurence Bassini, former owner of Watford, who was given a deadline of 1 July to close the deal.
According to Sky Sport UK, the consortium was competing with former Watford owner Laurence Bassini to purchase from the current Birmingham Sport Holdings (BSHL) property.
Maxi Lopez and Paul Richardson have been granted exclusivity, and an application has been submitted to the EFL for potential new owners of the Championship club (England’s second football league) to take the league’s owners and directors test. The transaction closed on the basis of approximately 50 million euros.
