In Washington, DC, the Secretary will meet his US counterpart, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. The subject of the talks will be: Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which is contrary to international law, and the legal issues connected with it, as well as other current legal policy issues.

In Cambridge (Massachusetts), the minister gives a speech at Harvard University and meets with students. The topic of prosecution of war crimes will be the focus. In his speech, the minister will deal with the war crimes trials being conducted before German courts in the Syrian civil war and with the ongoing investigations by the Federal Public Prosecutor General into Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

In New York City, the Minister will meet the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed, and the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Sergiy Kyslytsya. These talks are also likely to focus on Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which violates international law.

During his stay in New York City, the minister will also meet with representatives of Jewish organizations as well as with representatives of German business and the legal profession. A meeting with the Mayor of New York City, Mayor Eric L. Adams, is also planned.
