Chemical plant fire in Illinois releases toxic substance | International

A chemical plant in La Salle, northern Illinois, United States, caught fire on Wednesday morning, causing an alert in the emergency services. Authorities warned the 10,000 residents of the small town to take cover while the incident was dealt with.

La Salle police have warned that a green oxidizing chemical was released in the fire and warned local people not to touch the substance. The plant of the Carus company is dedicated to producing substances for water treatment and air purification.

The fire caused no injuries or fatalities and all employees managed to evacuate in time. So far the causes of the explosion at the chemical plant are unknown.
