Cut day in Hawaii. After sharing first place, in the first round, with Jordan Spieth and Taylor Montgomery, it was finally Chris Kirk who stood out alone in the lead at -11. The American made a total of 6 birdies and a bogey: “I felt good today, and after playing really well yesterday, you want to hit some solid shots and relax a bit. I didn’t relax at all. I made a very nice putt on the first shot, then two pitching wedges on the second and third shots which I hit pretty close. It can be difficult to maintain that kind of momentum for 18 holes. We all try to make birdies on the 18 holes but we never manage it”, said the leader.
Behind him, at -10, are JJ Spaun alongside Taylor Montgomery in 2nd position. The American JT Poston is 9th at -7 while further behind we find the defending champion Hideki Matsuyama 46th at -3.
Former leader Jordan Spieth had a very complicated day at +5 and now narrowly misses the cut at -1 in total. He becomes the second player in 4 years to lead in the first round and miss the cut in the second.
