A towering guest slithers under a balcony: A black bear has chosen to hibernate under a raised balcony of a Connecticut residence.

Posted at 6:53 a.m.

On December 30, Vinny Dashukewich and his wife Olivia Unwin were outside playing with their dog when they saw the bear. The bear, half asleep, did not move.

Black bears, an omnivorous species, prefer the woods. Adult males can weigh over 500 lbs. Over the past 20 years, the black bear population has grown significantly in Connecticut. Thus, the state lists more than 1,000 bears on its territory.
