DJ CORONA-BLOG / Federal elections will be more expensive than ever due to Corona

The current developments around the corona pandemic in compact form:

Bundestagswahl wird wegen Corona teuer wie nie

Because of the Corona crisis, the federal election will be more expensive than ever. According to Saarbrücker Zeitung, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has budgeted a total of 107 million euros for carrying out the ballot. A ministry spokesman said that an increased proportion of postal voters is expected, because it cannot be ruled out that “the election will still take place under the adverse effects of the Covid 19 pandemic”. More postal voters also meant higher costs, since the federal government finances the free postal mail delivery. Sending voting notifications has also become more expensive. A spokesman for the Federal Returning Officer said that due to Corona, additional election workers could be necessary. In 2017, the election cost 92 million euros.

Corona-Inzidenz in Deutschland weiter gestiegen

The so-called seven-day incidence of the spread of the coronavirus in Germany has increased further. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value on Monday as 61.0 (previous week: 58.9). The incidence rose for the third day in a row after having been falling for weeks. On Sunday the value was 60.2. The seven-day incidence is a key benchmark for the federal and state governments when it comes to imposing or relaxing restrictions. The value is the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days. The goal of the federal government is to push the value below 35. The number of new infections with the corona virus within one day was given by the RKI on Monday at 4,369. That was slightly lower than on Monday a week ago when the number was 4,426. As the institute also announced, citing data from the health authorities, 62 (116) deaths in connection with a coronavirus infection were registered within 24 hours.

Spahn hält Corona-Impfungen für Lehrer und Erzieher ab März für möglich

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) considers early corona vaccinations for teachers and educators to be possible from March. He wanted to discuss this with the health ministers of the federal states on Monday, said Spahn on Sunday evening in the ARD program report from Berlin. Then he wanted to quickly adjust the vaccination regulation. This could be done within a week. From the beginning of March the teachers and educators could come to the vaccination centers. Spahn made the exact start of the early vaccinations dependent on the situation in the respective federal states. First, priority group one, which mainly includes people over 80, must be vaccinated.

Weltärztepräsident warnt vor Lockerung von Auflagen

In view of the increasing number of infections, the chairman of the World Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, warns of further easing of the corona measures: “Anyone who talks about easing in times of increasing R values is acting absolutely irresponsibly,” the doctor told the newspapers of the Funke media group. It is too early to relax. “With every relaxation there will be a significant increase in the numbers.” With a view to the seven-day incidence, which has recently risen again and the R-value is again high, Montgomery warned: “The incidence value shows where we are currently. The R-value shows where we are going. With a value clearly above 1, 0 threatens exponential growth again – and that is exactly the case now. ” The virus has reached a new level with its mutations.
