Deontay Wilder with his own statue

Former World Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder posing next to his own statue, which will be erected in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The idea for the installation of the statue belongs to the Tuscaloosa Tourism Authority, and was created by local sculptor and muralist Caleb O’Connor, who moved to Tuscaloosa in 2009. The statue will be installed near the tourist visitor center in Tuscaloosa, and its grand opening will take place on May 25.

“I didn’t expect this at all. This is what it means that the ways of the Lord are inscrutable. I know that I will set many records and break many records along the way. I just see people coming to Alabama and stopping by Tuscaloosa to see the statue. It will remain for my children, their children, their children’s children,” Wilder told local media.

There are reports, in particular from WBC President Mauricio Suleiman, that the 36-year-old boxer intends to continue his boxing career, but Wilder himself has not yet commented on his future plans.
