Ensenada, Baja California.- The Marineros de Ensenada will compete for the title of the Northern League of Mexico with the youngest rosette of the 2022 season.
“We declare ourselves ready to return to the diamond. We continue with Diablos Rojos and Guerreros de Oaxaca and the Mexican base is made up of the young prospects of these organizations, plus the six foreigners, four pitchers and two batters,” informed Pepe Águila.
The manager of the Mariners indicated in this sense that the Mariners “will be the youngest team”.
“Devils is characterized by having young prospects and debuting them as early as possible in the Mexican League, but I have seen them practice with a lot of skills and I am impressed by their well-worked physiques. They also come from their winter league and from doing preseason with Diablos Rojos and Guerreros”, he added.
In the preparation of the squad, he said, the coaching staff led by manager José Luis “Borrego” Sandoval intervened.
“We have very good communication since the team began to be assembled and by mutual agreement we make the adjustments to know what needs to be reinforced”.
For 2022, “we decided to go for more pitchers, because after two years of pause the process (of pitching prospects in the organization) was slowed down.”
The season of the Northern League of Mexico, after two years of inactivity due to the pandemic, will be shortened in relation to the usual scheme.
“It was decided to start with 64 games of the regular role and it could be extended for another month with two playoffs. I think this adjustment is wise because everything stopped and the return must be step by step, ”he said.
The Mariners make their debut on Thursday at the Antonio Palacios stadium against the Freseros de San Quintín.
