The American from Texas drove the male to Alabama to pick up another Golden Retriever – Libby, Arlo’s younger sister.
Da beide Animals have the same mother, Karina asked the breeder to bring her in. Curiously, the woman watched the first meeting of the golden retrievers after two years – and filmed the touching moment.
In the clip, which went viral in December 2022, Arlo can be seen excitedly sniffing his mother’s muzzle before sniffing his new sister.
Shortly thereafter, the two-year-old golden retriever repeats the procedure and seems increasingly excited. The cute clip, which has now more than 600,000 clicks, is available here.

In conversation with Newsweek Karina explained this week: “I’m not sure if Arlo’s mother recognized him because she couldn’t sniff him properly because the breeder was holding her. But we’re glad we brought him to her.”
The 27-year-old also said: “We think that the fact that he could compare his mother’s smell to Libby’s helped him accept Libby a lot faster!”
Scientifically, it’s unclear if Arlo’s mother recognized her son. Some dams are still able to do this years later, others not at all.
One thing is for sure: the son’s reaction and his excited sniffing of his mother and sister warmed the hearts of many TikTok viewers.
