The event was eagerly awaited each year by World War II enthusiasts and the general public who came to commemorate the D-Day landings in Carentan-les-Marais. (Some) : it is now a thing of the past. Camp Arizona, an unmissable reenactment camp in the D-Daywill not take place in 2023. Its organizers announced the end of their activity on their Facebook account Thursday, January 5, 2023 in the evening.
The reasons put forward, after 10 years of an event that has become emblematic, are multiple. “The years accumulate and make themselves felt (we are no longer 20, as the elders say) and it’s true! The administration begins to weigh us down and the hours spent in the evening on returning from work as well as the moving of all the equipment to prepare for the event weighs on us more and more. »
Rain of thanks
The organizers take this opportunity to thank all their supporters over the years (volunteers, participants, visitors to the municipality and territorial gendarmerie brigade of Carentan, municipal police). “Thank you for all these meetings, these shares, these laughter, these moments of adrenaline, finally all these years of camaraderie. » The messages of thanks against them flourish under their announcement, between disappointment and recognition for the good times offered.
The question now is whether the camp will return in another form or with another organizing team. Just 6 months away from D-Day 2023, which will mark the 79e D-Day anniversary is already tomorrow.
