The organizers of the international song contest “Eurovision” called the question of the possible participation of Russian viewers in the voting of the contest in 2023 open.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) reported that the question of the participation of Russian citizens in the voting of the Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in May next year, remains open. This information is provided by TASS.
According to the official representative of the EBU David Goodmana list of non-participating countries that will be given the opportunity to vote next year will be published “closer to the start of this event”.
At the moment, it remains unknown which citizens of which countries will be granted the right to participate in the audience voting. “Only the audience from the states that are allowed to vote online, as determined by the Reference Group, the governing body of the competition, will be able to cast their vote”– said the organizers of Eurovision.
At the same time, the EBU added that residents of countries whose artists will not perform at the contest will also be able to vote for their favorite participant.
Eurovision next year will pass in British Liverpool. In 2023, Ukraine was supposed to host the contest, as its representatives won Eurovision 2022. However, for security reasons, it was decided to transfer the competition to another country. Recall that in the UK Eurovision has already been held 8 times, and four of them were held in London. In addition, Edinburgh, Brighton, Harrogate and Birmingham have been venues for the competition over the years.
On the eve it became known that next year the voting rules at Eurovision are planned to be changed. As follows from the message published on the website of the contest, now the jury will be able to vote only in the final stage of Eurovision. This decision was made due to voting irregularities identified in the 2022 contest.
