Famous Belarusian neurosurgeon Arnold Smeyanovich dies of coronavirus

MINSK, 2 Jan – Sputnik… A well-known Belarusian neurosurgeon, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Arnold Smeyanovich died of coronavirus, the Ministry of Health of the country reported.

The head of the neurosurgical department of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist of Belarus was 82 years old.

“Arnold Smeyanovich died this night from coronavirus,” the press secretary of the Ministry of Health Yulia Borodun confirmed the information.

Arnold Smeyanovich is rightfully called the era of neurosurgery. He continued to operate in his ninth decade and tackled the most difficult cases of brain tumors.

Arnold Smeyanovich was born on August 11, 1938 in Bryansk. Graduated from Minsk State Medical Institute in 1960. He began his professional career as a surgeon in the Dribinsky district hospital of the Gorki district of the Mogilev region.

Arnold Fedorovich has developed and implemented a number of new techniques in the treatment of neurological diseases, he is the author of surgical techniques that have no analogues in world practice. Thanks to his developments in the treatment of certain types of brain tumors, it was possible to double the life expectancy of this category of patients. He developed and introduced into practice a number of original techniques that are of great importance in the treatment of neurooncological patients.
