Birmingham – A fan of England’s second division West Bromwich Albion has been jailed for eight weeks for racially insulting West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers online. That was decided by a court in Birmingham.

The 50-year-old had denigrated the Birmingham-born Sawyers, who plays for the national team of St. Kitts and Nevis, in a Facebook group. In addition to the prison sentence, the convict must pay Sawyers 500 pounds (approx. 580 euros) and the legal costs in the same amount. In addition, West Brom placed him with a lifelong stadium ban.
