Israel arrests 10 suspects after settler attacks on diplomats and journalist

Israeli police arrested at least 10 people suspected of participating in weekend attacks in the West Bank. The targets included a Washington Post journalist, European diplomats, and Palestinians. These arrests follow significant pressure from the United States regarding a surge in settler violence. While the U.S. has lauded the police action, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed doubt regarding the attacks. The incidents occurred during the olive harvesting season, a period often marked by increased tension in the occupied territories.

   Why it matters

Settler violence has escalated recently, with the human rights group Yesh Din reporting at least 170 attacks since September 27. These clashes often target Palestinian farmers and international observers. The involvement of foreign diplomats and U.S. press increases the geopolitical stakes for the Israeli government.
