Israeli Settlers Attack European Diplomats in West Bank

Israeli settlers attacked European diplomats and Palestinians during an olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, prompting international condemnation and a French demand for Israel to stop settler acts of terror. The incident occurred just a day after a Post photographer was beaten in the territory. Reports emerged that the Israel Defense Forces ignored early distress calls regarding armed settler threats and only responded hours later. U.S. officials subsequently visited the affected Palestinian village as European and regional leaders pressed Israel over its failure to prevent the violence.

   Why it matters

The assaults on foreign officials and local Palestinians highlight escalating tensions and lawlessness in the occupied West Bank. European and French authorities have openly challenged Israeli security measures following the diplomatic incidents. Questions over the military response time have further intensified scrutiny on regional security forces.
