The education minister announced that lessons will be totally or partly suspended following violent clashes between riot police and students. The movement, which began in the deprived suburbs of Paris, has led to the arrest of over 5,000 people, 87 percent of whom are minors. Demonstrators are protesting school funding, inequality, teacher shortages, and crumbling classrooms. While up to 500 schools face closure Monday, other reports indicate wider disruption across 1,800 high schools. Why it mattersTh
