Houthi Missiles Strike Presidential Palace and Airport in Aden

Iran-backed Houthi forces launched a missile barrage at the presidential palace complex in Aden, targeting the Saudi-backed Yemeni government. Five people were killed and 16 injured in the palace attack, though the prime minister and cabinet members survived. Separately, two missiles struck the grounds of Aden International Airport, landing 500 metres from a passenger plane bound for Cairo without causing casualties. These strikes occur alongside broader Houthi attacks on Saudi infrastructure and a reported missile interception in the Medina region.

   Why it matters

The attacks represent an escalation in the conflict between Houthi forces and the Saudi-led coalition. The Houthis seek to dismantle the Saudi-backed interim government based in Aden. This volatility persists as Iran denies encouraging the escalation despite the Houthis' alignment with Tehran.
