Houthis Demand Aden Airport Evacuation Amid Intensifying Yemen Clashes

Yemen's Houthis have demanded the immediate evacuation of Aden airport as fighting intensifies in the country. Houthi forces targeted the facility with missiles, prompting a shutdown according to reports. Yemeni government forces stated the Iran-aligned group attacked the airport after issuing warnings for people to clear the site. The facility serves as a critical entry point for aid and supplies in southern Yemen. The escalation coincides with wider regional conflicts involving US and Israeli strikes against Iranian targets, alongside separate Saudi-led airstrikes in northern Yemen that reportedly killed 14 people in a market.

   Why it matters

The attacks on Aden airport disrupt a vital humanitarian lifeline for civilians in southern Yemen while the country remains caught in broader Middle East hostilities. Regional tensions have surged amid joint military operations against Iran and ongoing hostilities involving Houthi positions. Meanwhile, Yemen has accused the Houthis of targeting a camp for displaced people near Aden.
