Netanyahu: Flydubai Co-Pilot Underwent Islamic Radicalization

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that an Omani co-pilot who attempted to hijack a Flydubai flight from the UAE to Israel underwent Islamic radicalization in recent months. Netanyahu told Fox News that it is very likely the co-pilot intended to crash the plane with everyone on board. He warned that any country found responsible for the incident will pay a very heavy price. The attempt was foiled after passengers subdued the co-pilot, who allegedly stabbed the captain during the flight on September 30.

   Why it matters

The incident has prompted a review of aviation security protocols to determine how the co-pilot was cleared despite being a security risk. Captain Smeet Machar, an Indian national, reported that passengers would have died if he had not intervened. The investigation now focuses on identifying the mastermind behind the attack.
